Founded in Concord, MA, The Nature Connection has been connecting people with limited access to the outdoors since 1983 through unique educational and therapeutic nature-based programs, including fresh plants, live animals, natural materials, and engaging hands-on activities

Serving Middlesex County and the Greater Boston area, The Nature Connection works with undeserved individuals whose challenges include emotional trauma, mental illness, physical disabilities, and memory loss including Alzheimer’s. The Nature Connection delivers programs to special needs schools, psychiatric treatment centers, elder facilities, Alzheimer’s care programs, and urban after-school programs. The Nature Connection connects vulnerable individuals with nature’s capacity to teach and to heal.

The right candidate will have an interest in nature/animal/eco/alternative therapies, an interest and/or experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, and/or an interest in nature education (formal or informal).

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist Program Coordinators in planning and preparing for programs (gathering information, supplies, creating program materials) for participants of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.   
  • Interact and engage with program participants though nature alongside NC Program Coordinators and volunteers. 
  • Learn and demonstrate knowledge of Nature Connection methodology and communication style.   

 

Key Skills & Requirements:

  • Preferred candidates should be enrolled in, or have recently completed, an undergraduate program of studies in psychology, biology, social work, education, or a related field.
  • Excellent professionalism as you will be representing Nature Connection to the public, and conduct yourself in a manner fitting a role model to participants during programing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as you will be interacting with program participants and the Nature Connection team of staff and volunteers.
  • Possess and show empathy and compassion while executing Nature Connection policies of safety, choice, and respect.
  • Creativity, passion, and humor while also being flexible and adaptable under pressure.
  • Team player – Nature Connection values diversity of opinion, background, and ability in our program participants as well as staff, volunteers, board, friends and supporters.

Details: Programs are delivered on Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays, and Fridays. Candidates must be available at least one of those days, Monday is not an available day unless candidates are interested in working on other projects. Schedule is otherwise flexible. Unpaid. Access to professional development opportunities.
